Uses

The subjunctive mood is used to express doubt, uncertainty and subjectivity. Eg:

No creo que él lo conozca
I don’t think he knows him

Temo que le moleste
I’m afraid it may upset him

No creo que Irene venga esta tarde a trabajar
I do not think Irene will come to work this afternoon

Dudo que María venga mañana
I doubt Maria is coming tomorrow

We also find the subjunctive mood after "que" (that), aunque (although), a menos que (unless), a pesar de que (despite), antes (de) que (before), es importante que (it's important that), cuando, etc. Eg:

Te llamaré cuando termine
I will call you when I finish

Vamos a menos que llueva
We are going unless it rains

Espero que regrese pronto
I hope he comes back soon

Me alegra que te guste
I’m glad you like it

The present subjunctive is also used for negative informal commands. Eg:

No vengas mañana
Don’t come tomorrow

No traigáis la maleta
Don’t bring (plural) the suitcase
